A Heap of Anime News Dropped During the Festive Season

The Yuletide season offer a plethora of pursuits much better than checking the updates: unwrapping gifts, indulging in delicious food, and harnessing patience techniques to not yelling at family members. Hopefully you succeeded in accomplish all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy announcements surfaced over the festive period, and should you overlooked any, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Will Continue (By 2027)

Without a doubt the most surprising piece of news, the notorious disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to halt the series' continuation. The show will return with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they easily could have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. On a positive note this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which is seen as a positive development. Yet, the key visual for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, by now, they are probably teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the high caliber of its output but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a more relaxed pace, the series showed it still retained the fans' appreciation and enthusiasm, and now everyone is thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Will Get a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the highly popular, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been running for some time, and its sixth season was a further excellent entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will almost certainly debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

One more studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Return With a Second Season

Immediately following the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has yet to be revealed.
