Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable changes:

  • Each team includes just eight real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
  • Only two maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers looking for different methods to have fun with the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 players are mad.

Community Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while another lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Input

All that said, players have valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the system. So this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
