Jennifer Lawrence Says Discussing Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Dividing the Nation Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she believes it's no longer fitting to speak out against the Trump administration, worried it could exacerbate unhelpful debate and further divisions across the United States.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Explains the Actress
In a recent interview, Lawrence reflected, “When Trump was first in office, I believed I was acting frantically without clear direction. But experience has shown, election after election, Hollywood stars fail to influence whatsoever on who people vote for.”
The actor went on, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions that’s ripping the country apart.”
Changing Allegiances
The actress has admitted freely about backing conservative and liberal candidates in past elections. Raised by Republican parents in Kentucky, she voted for John McCain in 2008 then moving to the Democratic party and revealing she understood during the Obama era that supporting the GOP was opposing her personal freedoms as a female citizen.
Earlier Remarks
Several years ago, she commented that a Trump victory could represent “a disaster” and endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “because I believe she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will do whatever she can to protect women’s health rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
The star was aligned with many in the entertainment industry in her disapproval of Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the minimal impact public figures have over the electoral decisions was emphasized by Trump’s victory.
“This upcoming term seems distinct,” noted the actress regarding his leadership. “Since he made his plans clear. We knew what he did for four years. He was very clear. And that’s the option selected.”
Latest Film
Lawrence is discussing the drama, Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she plays a recent parent who deals with her emotional state in rural Montana. At a media event for the movie in Venice, the star spoke about the situation in the Middle East: “I feel fear. It’s horrifying. What’s taking place is no less than a humanitarian crisis and it’s terrible.”
Wider Issues
She continued by stating that she was disappointed by “the hostility in the conversations of the political landscape currently and how that is going to be commonplace to the children today. It’s going to be standard to them that leaders are untruthful.”
The actor sought to redirect frustration about the conflict to leaders rather than celebrities. “Concentrate on those accountable,” she remarked, in what many took to be a reference to the recent commitment signed by more than 4,000 entertainment industry figures to boycott specific industry bodies.
Personal Connections
Lawrence, who received an Academy Award early in her career for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, is attracting awards attention for her work in Die, My Love. Even though the director has denied the narrative being understood as one of postpartum depression and psychosis, Lawrence revealed that she identified with elements of her character’s journey after the birth of her second son, soon after production wrapped.
“I felt anxiety for my son,” she said, “imagining every worst-case scenario, and then doubting everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I got on a treatment called the prescription and I used it for two weeks and it was effective.”
Career Moments
Jennifer Lawrence also discussed about the empowering aspect of shooting revealing sequences in the project while she was some months pregnant and couldn’t work out.
“It’s refreshing,” she remarked, regarding the need to cast off vanity. “I mean, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What separates me between me and a prostitute? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
