Pat Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Initiating Abusive Songs Targeting Coach Chris Wilder

The striker has joined Sheffield United just half a year after instigating disrespectful songs aimed at their manager, Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has agreed to a deal joining the Championship strugglers until January. Bamford's lengthy career with Leeds finished through agreement in August.

One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds included starting offensive songs about Chris Wilder during Leeds' success festivities in April. Currently, the one-cap England international will feature under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to rescue his beloved club away from the drop zone.

Past History Involving Bamford and the Manager

The pair had a past prior to Leeds won promotion to the top flight last season and United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called the forward as a "muppet" back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades won direct promotion while Leeds United missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends & Moving Forward

All appears to have been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack while Bamford hoping to resurrect his career.

The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.

Wilder commented at the time: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I have no problem whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow professional! However I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.

“We had a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and had a longer discussion together and he is a super guy, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and accept it and that is part and parcel of football at every level, including a Sunday morning. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Pat.”
