Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not Real Fans'

Fulham Begin Powerfully to Beat Spurs and Increase Pressure on Frank

Tottenham Hotspur fans who booed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed later "they can't be true Spurs supporters" by boss Thomas Frank.

Spurs conceded two scores in the opening six minutes to fall 2-1 to their opponents, marking their tenth Premier League home loss of the year.

However the primary topic of discussion was Fulham's next goal when the keeper gave away the ball far beyond his box.

He ventured out to handle a long ball and took the ball near the touchline.

But, instead of kicking it out of play, the Italian spun and tried to clear away, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

King laid the ball off to Wales midfielder Harry Wilson, who curled a shot into the net from the touchline measured at thirty-six point six yards.

Seconds afterwards when the ball came to Vicario once more, some Tottenham supporters jeered him.

The team were jeered off at half-time, with the side 2-0 down, and once more at the final whistle.

A particular of those booing sessions really angered Frank.

"I heard some of our fans reportedly jeered the situation and jeered after, which, in my opinion is totally unacceptable," the Danish manager stated about the supporters' response to his shot-stopper.

"Those individuals cannot be true Spurs supporters that act that way. Fair enough booing after the game, fine, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are behind each other going forward."

Kenny Tete had given the visitors a early advantage prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Tottenham in an improved second period showing.

Former top-flight keeper Joe Hart stated that the second goal was "completely preventable".

"I do understand the supporters' frustration," the ex-keeper added. "I know the part the keeper is performing. He is a excellent squad member, he is a true figure in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"The keeper was deeply implicated in what turned out to be the decisive score."

'It is Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match

Italian international Vicario is in his third season with Spurs.

The 29-year-old said following the match that he had to accept the criticism.

"That goal was a mistake of mine, I take responsibility for that," he commented.

"My aim was to kick the ball far and I just hit the ball in a poor manner. It was an more difficult mountain to overcome."

He said being booed "is part of the game".

"I am mature, what can I say?" he added. "We cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.

"It is on us to stay increasingly calm, to focus on ourselves. We are lacking in calmness and poise to reverse results. This match is a bad defeat and it is tough to accept."

'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Goal Line'

Despite the keeper's error, it was far from an easy score for Harry Wilson to convert.

In fact it was the second most distant Premier League score of the season – following Adams' 43.3 metre goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which interestingly too occurred on the same day.

Wilson stated he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an empty net to target.

10 seconds elapsed between the keeper exiting of his box and the midfielder shooting – which was 5 seconds after the kick.

"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was out of the box for a long time," Wilson remarked.

"I was surprised none of the defenders returned to the goal line. When none of them covered the net, my interest lit up a bit.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which gave me a bit of extra opportunity. After that it was solely about attempting to achieve the correct contact and place it towards goal. I felt a positive sense, as soon as it came off my boot, that it was on the right line."

'When You're in a Poor Run, Everything Appears to Go Against You'

Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unjustifiable - the Manager

While Vicario's error led coverage, this was an all-round poor performance for Spurs to continue their home ground struggles.

This was their tenth home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared club record matching 1994 and 2003.

They still have home fixtures against Frank's old side Brentford and champions the Reds to play before the close of the year.

Only one of those wins have come after the manager replaced his predecessor in the off-season.

"When you're down 2-0 following six minutes, there is a mountain to overcome," stated Frank.

"When you're in a bad spell, all aspects appears to work against you too – the first was a deflected shot, the second is a mistake from Vic.

"This result leaves us in a position where we have lost an additional match. Every game has a single story, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We just need to continue striving. The second half was much better and with luck an aspect we can use to learn."

Spurs have been defeated in 4 consecutive home London derbies for the initial time in the Premier League.

And they are recording nine point five attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per match in the Premier League – their lowest averages on file in a one season (since at least 2003-04).

Ex- Cottagers midfielder Danny Murphy commented that the manager has to endure the criticism.

"He must accept the criticism," Murphy remarked. "He's taken a prestigious job at a major team with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that comes with that.

"Their showings at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
